Hoju Pendant

The hoju (宝珠) is an auspicious jewel in Japanese culture believed to grant wishes and bestow blessings. In Buddhism, the hoju is associated with the wisdom of the Dharma (Buddha’s teachings), illuminating the path toward enlightenment and spiritual fulfillment.

Traditionally depicted as a radiant jewel crowned with flames, the hoju appears across many forms of Japanese art, including temple ornamentation, woodblock prints, and traditional tattoo iconography.

The hoju has served as an enduring muse throughout my work over the years. Across centuries, it has remained a powerful symbol of good fortune and spiritual transformation. This pendant carries that tradition forward as a personal talisman to be worn close to the body.

Specifications

Individually cast in solid sterling silver or gold and finished by hand.

Pendant measures 27mm overall, including bail. The hoju itself measures 19mm top to bottom, 16.5mm in width, and 3.5mm at its thickest point. Its profile tapers, gradually narrowing from a fuller base toward the top. It is substantial and weighty, with a satisfying heft.

The pendant hangs from a closed jump ring bail with a 4.5mm inner diameter, designed to accommodate a variety of chains. The back is engraved with “BOLLIN” and the appropriate karat hallmark.

Available in sterling silver, 14k gold, and 18k gold.
22k gold versions are available upon request.
